I felt like the spider sheriff—broom in hand—evicting dozens of spider families. There were daddy long legs, those dark-brown muscley ones, and even those fuzzy grey ones. Since there’s no way to formally ask them to leave or work out some sort of roommate situation, I have to exterminate them and I still feel sad about it.

Now, anytime I have a quiet moment, I wonder if there is a spider running up my leg. If I feel a hair brush against my face, I wonder if it’s another web. It’s a similar paranoia I feel when faced with another one of my greatest fears.

Being misgendered.

It happens. But like the encounters with my eight-legged roommates, I’ve learned to accept it as a possibility. Every so often, someone is going to sir me. The only thing I can do, is take a breath and go on with my day. Most of the time, the horrible feelings that come with negative moments, only have to last for a moment. Why let a few seconds of negativity waste a great day? Or, let a handful of spiders ruin my hobbit hole?

I plan to give a spider a hug and shrug off any negative moment. I hope you will too. 😉
