The category isssssssss GENDER EXPRESSION AND EXTRA BODY PARTS! Halloweeeeeen is here!!!!!!!! That means, we have the golden opportunity to dress as whoever or whatever one identifies with. Personally, I identify with having a tail. Whatever evolutionary thing happened where fate decided we shouldn’t have tails, I elect to change that. I also identify as a woman adventurer. So, this year, I’m going to dress up twice. Once as Fiona the Human and later, as a devil woman with red skin. Fiona covers the adventuring and the devil lets me be red with a pointed tail. I’m so excited!
This month is iconic in the community for allowing those in the closet to let out their true personas. Even if it’s only for one night. I don’t like creepy things but I love everyone dressing up. If it were up to me, if someone crowned me queen of education, I’d create classes where everyone learned how to dress in a way that expressed who they are. No more polo shirts, cargo pants, or colorless dresses. (Unless someone identifies as a colorless person who needs extra pockets.)
Until then, we will always have October. How do you intend to express yourself? Deep below all the layers of your psyche, who are you? And will you please share that beautiful being with the world? This is what I’m asking myself. I hope you will too.
