The category isssssssss BAD NEWS. In a physical world, on an ever-changing planet, surrounded by human siblings—one evolutionary step away from poo slinging chimpanzees—life can be tough. Bad news is inevitable. Sad moments are a part of our existence. Whether it’s a supreme court ruling or a canceled pickled egg delivery, disappointment is a part of life.
What do you do when the latest sour moment darkens your doorstep? Me, I pout. I wallow. I cry like a bottle-less baby. At least, that’s my first inclination. If I’m lucky, I’m able to redirect that energy into a deep breath or a quiet moment looking at the clouds. Sometimes, I text my sister images of The Rock wearing various wigs.
Anything to keep me from wasting even one precious second on letting the negativity of the world take hold of me. Because, negativity is contagious. This doesn’t mean smiling like a stepford wife and pretending everything is okay, because it isn't. It means, NOT becoming a black-hole, absorbing light and life from everything that crosses my path. Then, staring a giant gorilla of suffering in the face and actively creating joy in the world.
Next time I’m hit with really bad news, I hope to counter it by making something good happen. Even something as small as sending another image of The Rock in another bad wig. I hope you will too.
